July proved to be an incredible month for big fish around the world, with some 58 billfish over 500 pounds being caught.  To benchmark this, consider two
things – one, June saw 39 bills over 500 across the globe, and two, the typically hottest billfisheries – Kona, Bermuda, and Madeira – saw below-average fishing in terms of number of fish.  The variety of fisheries catching big fish was exceptional though.

Some highlights…FIVE granders caught in July, including the World Cup winner in Cape Verde…THREE granders in Bermuda, including the bizarre coincidence of two 1,005-pound marlin in two days…and fisheries like French Polynesia and Puerto Rico submitting reports of huge billfish.
