February 2010 Report

One look at the reports and one would think all that’s being caught these days are huge numbers of sailfish and striped marlin.  But there still have been a fair few big girls caught thus far.  The world’s highlights this year so far, by billfishery…

Largest billfish of the year to date - a "950+" on the Harmattan, at Ascension

Ascension Island – 950 blue, 900 blue, 700 blue, 600 blue

Panama – 800 black, 750 blue, 700 black, 600 black, 600 black

Cabo San Lucas – 800 blue

Puerto Vallarta – 700 black, 650 blue

Brazil – 700 blue, 650 blue

Kona – 666 blue, 650 blue, 600 blue

Grenada – 659 blue

Costa Rica – 600 blue

S Florida – 450 sword

So far 19 fish over 600 pounds caught in the world this year…much great fishing still to come, for sure.

Looking for that big marlin in March?  Be thinking about Brazil, where some big ones will still be around…Ascension has at least another week or two to go…Kona‘s always got a shot at a big one…you’ve definitely still got a shot at a big girl in Panama…and you can catch the start of the big marlin frenzy in Cape Verde.

We made it down to CV with only 1 bite on our 5 day trip down here. Got 1 Blue about 750, very windy like hell down here right now, one of the local boats went out last week and went 6 for 10 on Blues.
