500+ Club – October 2010

Not surprisingly, the October Billfish Beast report is dominated by fish caught in Australia – in fact, of the 57 500+-pound billfish caught around the world in October, 40 of them were on the Great Barrier Reef.  Eight granders in all – and obviously still counting – in the first full month of the season on the reef – not to mention a huge number of 900s, 800s, and 700s…and the largest number of extremely large fish caught in any month yet this year.

That said, there were also a few surprises in the month of October – such as the late-season blue off Virginia Beach and the good number of 500+ fish caught in the Bisbee’s tournaments in Cabo San Lucas…particularly nice to see given the way the fishing’s been going in Cabo this year.
