Happy Hooker the best grander boat in the world?

Happy Hooker, this past week, captured a 1,065-pound blue marlin – the fourth grander caught in the world this year.  This boat, usually captained by Berno Niebuhr, also happened to win the Blue Marlin World Cup last year, weighing a 1,097-pound blue as well.

And while Cape Verde isn’t necessarily known for the huge numbers of big fish it sees (it did however capture three granders last year), it is known for its large numbers of marlin…which makes the Happy Hooker’s achievements all the more impressive.

Get this: since 1997, the Happy Hooker has caught NINE granders, all in Cape Verde…the most grander blue marlin we have recorded by any boat in the world over the timeframe.  Only Australian boats have captured more granders.

So keep an eye on the Happy Hooker – and don’t bet against this boat seeing more big blues in the near future.

The Happy Hooker's most recent grander - a 1,085 pound blue caught last week.
