April 500+ Club Roundup

500+-Club-1024x566

We had a total of forty (49) Billfish over 500 lbs reported to us in April. From those, forty-six (46) were Blue Marlin and three (3) were Swordfish. With the exception of heavy tackle off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, this is one of the most dominant months we have had from one fishery. The Cape Verdes produced thirty-seven (37) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, accounting for 80% of Blue Marlin caught in April.

Our Top Captain & Boat was Olaf Grimkowski on Andromeda in the Cape Verdes who released seven (7) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, largest of which was a 750. The Largest Blue Marlin of April came courtesy of Capt. Stuart Simpson on Nha Cretcheu who weighed a 906 lbs. Blue Marlin. The largest Swordfish came from Jamie Harris on the Gladiator out of Tasmania, that tipped the scales at an impressive 748 lbs.

May is traditionally an excellent month for large Blue Marlin in both the Atlantic and the Pacific, so we should expect some great fishing. We are also do a Grander, which May has also proven to be a great month traditionally.
