Madeira Starts Up

Our Mary II
BLUE MARLIN ON OUR MARY

Madeira – Following one of the best season in years in 2015, it appears the Blue Marlin have decided to feed once again off Funchal. In early fishing with only a handful of boats out, the fleet has already produced eight (8) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, largest a 750 on Tightline. Plenty of larger ones seen and lost as well, with Xareu losing a fish in the 800 lbs range and Grander losing one in the 900 lbs. range.

I can’t remember the last time we saw boats releasing two Blue Marlin over 500 lbs this early in the season, but Grander (650,550) and Wahoo (500,500) both had very special days. Conditions appear to be good and should be getting better as some warmer water moves in. Hold on, it may be a good one again in Madeira.

Hook, is this an older pic. We released a banded Marlin like this several years back that was close to if not the Ladie’s unlimited record. Frothy and I along with Jason Brice were on deck, I’d send you a pic if I could. I’d never seen a fish with this type marking. Kinda curious if others have or if perhaps this was the fish we released. Don’t remember tagging the fish. Going to check with Frothy on it.

Hello John – These are all recent pictures (within the last week). What bands are you referring to?
