Sea Spud after a Great Day

Quepos, Costa Rica – Seems like July is a good month to reach major milestones on Blue Marlin. Angler Gray Ingram just passed 1,000 Blue Marlin released over in the Atlantic and now Capt. Pete Rae on the Sea Spud has likewise passed the 1,000 mark in the Pacific. To show the strength of the fishery and the dedication from Team Sea Spud, Capt. Rae had released approximately 150 Blue Marlin (1,150 in his Career) before starting his now 17-Month journey off Costa Rica. Over that time he has released 1,001 Blue Marlin, 150 Sailfish, 27 Striped Marlin and 8 Black Marlin. They spent 194 Days on the water, giving them a six (6) Billfish a day average. Owner Pat McCotter is also pushing up his personal numbers, now only eight (8) Blue Marlin shy of 700.

In their most recent trip, they spent 4-Days fishing going 57-71 on Blue Marlin and 1-1 on Striped Marlin. Their best day thus far also came from this last trip when they went an impressive 25-33 on Blue Marlin. Capt. Rae pulls lures mostly, with 600+ of them falling victim to Head Sea Lures.

Capt. Pete feels very blessed to be given the opportunity to experience this fishery. He has mentioned a number of times that he would have “questioned” anyone who would have told him he could get these kinds of numbers on Blue Marlin. Now, Team Sea Spud has one more trip left to see if they can’t add to their numbers and get Mr. McCotter across that 700 mark. I know you will join us in wishing him all the best!
