September 500+ Club Roundup

500+-Club-1024x566

September tends to be a slower month in terms of large fish as the Northern Atlantic slows down and boats start to move to new destinations worldwide. Despite that, we still had forty-seven (47) Marlin reported to us over 500 lbs. including thirty-five (35) Blue Marlin and twelve (12) Black Marlin.

We got our 7th Grander of the year and first Black Marlin courtesy of the Great Barrier Reef on Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition. Although technically in October, the GBR also yielded us the 8th Grander of the Year from Capt. Laurie Wright on the Calypso. While October will be dominated by the boys in Northern Queensland, September still belonged to the Atlantic.

Our Top Fishery for September was Grand Canary releasing ten (10) Blue Marlin. There was an additional 500+ caught in Lanzarote, which would make it eleven (11) for the Canary Islands. We had a tie for Top Boat with Capt. Hafid Qualiti El Harrouyi on Cavalier and Capt. Marin Das on Cal Rei both releasing four (4) Blue Marlin, largest for Cavalier was 700 lbs and the largest for Cal Rei was 650 lbs. Kona, Hawaii once again came in 2nd with seven (7) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, largest of which was an 800 lbs. beauty on the Anxious.

It is Heavy Tackle season off Cairns, Australia so we expect great things in October!
