The Billfish Report is counting down its Top 10 Billfisheries of the Year, and our first Honorable Mention goes to Watamu, Kenya. Criteria for our Top 10 include fish numbers, variety of billfish species, average size of fish and length of season.
Variety is the name of the game in Kenya. Sailfish, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin all call these waters home. While the numbers can be great, it is really the chance at a multiple species day that makes this fishery so unique. 2012 would most likely be described as an average year for most of Kenya, but average is just fine with us. Here are some of the highlights from 2012.
Watamu, Kenya – Clueless released 26 Sailfish and 1 Black Marlin (750lbs) over 5-Days.
