May turned out to be a good month for the 500+ Club, but after a fantastic April we thought May would be even better. We had forty-nine (49) Blue Marlin, one (1) Black Marlin and no Swordfish reported to us. As is typical, Blue Marlin dominated with not many Black Marin fisheries really open for business. Like April, the Cape Verdes dominated our board with twenty-nine (29) Blue Marlin released by the Fleet. Kona, Hawaii came in a distant but ever present 2nd with five (5) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs.
Our Top Boat & Captain was Marty Bates on Onda Emma releasing an impressive eleven (11) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs. of which seven (7) of those were estimated at over 700 lbs. Capt. Simon Bracey on Happy Hooker II was 2nd with six (6) Blue Marlin of which five (5) of those were over 700 lbs.
It should be noted that the Northern Gulf of Mexico produced four (4) fish over 500 lbs. the largest of which a 708 lbs. Blue Marlin on Sea Mixer out of Venice, Louisiana.
June has historically been an excellent month for large Blue Marlin as the East Coast of the United States, Bermuda, Madeira and the Canary Islands start to fire up. Check back here often to see where they are biting!
