January is traditionally one of the slowest months for big marlin and 2015 was no different. We has twenty-six (26) Blue Marlin and one (1) Black Marlin reported to us. With so few 500+ marlin caught, it is tough to call one fishery our top, but we did have three (3) reported to us from Mauritius and Canavieiras, Brazil. If we had to name a Top Fishery it would be the North Island of New Zealand where we got four (4) Blue Marlin and one (1) Black Marlin reported to us, the largest a 647 lbs. Black Marlin on Charrette out of Bay of Islands.
The largest fish of January came from No Limit out of Mauritius, where they weighed a 950 lbs. Blue Marlin. We had three boats who released two (2) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, Camargue fishing our of Canavieiras, Brazil, Leilani in Samoa and Black Pearl in the Ivory Coast.
February can be a good month and we still don’t have our 1st Grander of the Season. Kona, Mauritius, Brazil, Ascension….we are waiting.
