Cairns, Australia – We just can’t say enough about the bite on the Great Barrier Reef. The numbers of large Black Marlin are absolutely staggering. If fish under 700 lbs. are being caught, nobody is reporting them. We are a full month into the season and we now have 20 Grander Black Marlin and those are just the ones we know of, no doubt more will be reported to us when boats get back into port. Many well known Captains we are talking to have called this at least the best season since the 1980’s. We have had 80 Black Marlin reported to us over 500 lbs. and if we really look hard at the numbers, only a few are under 700 lbs. There is still a solid month left in the season, so it may be too early to tell, but we like what we see!
You can keep up with ALL the action at our 500+ Club and Grander Watch is always keeping track of the big girls over the 1,000 lbs. mark.

I studied abroad in Cairns back in 2006. I’m back in the USA but still dreaming of catching a black marlin.
Hope to make it back your way sometime very soon!
