Los Suenos, Costa Rica – You have to love it when a plan comes together, especially when you are relying on Blue Marlin to cooperate. The Crew of the Carol Libby have been laser focused over the last 2-Years, trying to break the Single Season Release Record on Blue Marlin (422 Blue Marlin held by Capt. Bobby McGuinness on Cazador). It took them 61-Days on the water to do it, but their last trip put them over the mark and now stand at 430 Blue Marlin released, having fished from February to June of this year. While their home port was Los Suenos, the majority of their fish were caught off of Golfito, Costa Rica between Jaco, Costa Rica and the Panama border.
Team Carol Libby was lead by Capt. Josh Temple, Owner & Angler Greg Brandner, Angler Keith Brandner, Deck Boss James Brown, Deckhand Andrea McQuade & Deckhand Tony Carpenter. Anyone who has ever fished for records knows the amount of preparation and dedication it takes from the entire team, especially when seeking a season record where this crew spent two months together at sea. They raised an eye-popping 754 Blue Marlin, getting bites out of 614 to finally get to the 430 releases (310 of which were tagged). The daily averages were insane, raising over 12 Blue Marlin a Day, 10 Hook-Ups and 7 Releases. They has an equally impressive 70% Hook-Up to Release ratio, which we all know goes back to a great team effort. They used Bait & Switch, Lures and Live Baits to get these Blue Marlin, all of which were in the 200 lbs range, largest of which was 475 lbs.
They plan to continue to fish and add more Blue Marlin to their record, so we will be certain to keep you informed on their progress. Congratulation to Team Carol Libby on their new Release Record and some tremendous Blue Marlin fishing.
