August was a good month for large Billfish with fifty-five (55) reported to us over 500 lbs including fifty-one (51) Blue Marlin, two (2) Black Marlin and two (2) Swordfish. The fish were spread out through a number of fisheries with Kona, Hawaii c0-leading with ten (10) Blue Marlin, largest of which was an 883 lbs. Blue Marlin on the Kona Concept. The Azores also provided us with ten (10) Blue Marlin, largest of which was a 1,075 lbs. Blue Marlin on Boca Raton.

Our Top Boat was Margarita fishing out of Madeira with three (3) Blue Marlin including a 700, 600 & 600. Marlin Magic II & Kona Concept in Kona, Hawaii, Boca Raton, Xacara and Nola in the Azores, Challenger in Bermuda and Lara Jade in Madeira all recorded two (2) Blue Marlin over 500 lbs.

We had two Swordfish reported to us over 500 lbs which is a pretty rare event with Wee Wetta in New Zealand catching a 508 lbs. broadbill and Shea D Lady landing a 501 lbs. beauty.

Historically September is a slow month for Blue Marlin as we usher in the Black Marlin season in Northern Queensland, but we already have fourteen (14) Blue Marlin reported this month, proving once again the fish don’t have a calendar.
