A lot going on around the world on the billfish calendar, with a number of tournaments – some big-money ones – slated in the first couple of weeks of August. Some of the tournament action we’ll be tracking here on billfishreport.com…
Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT). A huge tournament with teams from all around the world descending upon Kona and rotating boats in search of big blue marlin.
White Marlin Open (Ocean City, MD). Can they match last year’s winner – a 1,062-pound blue? They’re seeing plenty of whites right now.
San Juan International Billfish Tournament. Tournament claims to be the longest consecutive-running billfish tournament in the world. Boats seeing 1-3 shots at blues a day the last week or so.
Mid-Atlantic $500,000. If anyone knows what the prize money is on this tournament, please let us know.
Big Island Marlin Tournament (Kona). Second-to-last tournament on the Kona summer fishing calendar – and Kona’s getting a late bite this year, which makes this timing perfect.
Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament. Any chance they catch fire on white marlin like they did in late August last year? One boat had 41 in a DAY.
We’ll be posting results on billfishreport.com as well as updates on our /billfishreport Twitter feed – stay tuned.
