Cape Verdes – After so many years of such off the charts Blue Marlin fishing, we sometimes remember this is in fact marlin fishing. Which means of course, the Blue Marlin do not always cooperate. Lets face it, they rarely cooperate which makes us love them even more. When they are biting of the Cape Verdes though, there is no fishery that can compare.
We generally see a nice bite that starts in March and then heats up in April, but this year the March bite never really got going. The boys were catching fish, but not on a consistent basis that they are so accustomed to doing. Well, it appears that the April bite is starting to materialize and we can only hope it continues well into the summer.
This new wave of fish has brought some good size fish too, with three fish over 750 lbs. Most boats are getting 3-4 shots a day on Blue Marlin. Not the Cape Verdes we all know and love, but it does appear the fish have shown up, so get prepared for some great numbers.
Here are some of the reports we have received over the last few days.
Cape Verdes – Dimeau went 2-2 on Blue Marlin, largest was 800 lbs. They also released a Sailfish.
Cape Verdes – Big Oh went 3-6 on Blue Marlin.
Cape Verdes – Happy Hooker went 3-5 on Blue Marlin.
Cape Verdes – Smoker went 3-4 on Blue Marlin.
