2010 Billfisheries of the Year – #10 Galapagos

#10 – Galapagos

Striped Marlin for Capt. Warren Sellers

The Billfish Report is counting down its top 10 Billfisheries of the Year, and coming in at #9 are the Galapagos.  Criteria for our Top 10 include numbers, variety, and size of fish.

Do you like Striped Marlin? How about big Striped Marlin? Do you like to catch 10+ a day? This is what the Galapagos are all about. Striped Marlin and lots of them. Add in a good blue marlin bite with a 400 lbs average and you are probably sold, right?

Striped Marlin being released by Capt. Sellers

There is only one other fishery that can boast the numbers of striped marlin that the Galapagos do (Cabo San Lucas) but the size of these fish is what separates this fishery, with the average over 150 lbs. We had so many 15+ Striped Marlin bite reports, we tended to “glaze” over at yet another lifetime day of fishing. But, we ultimately did not forget those days and that is why they are our #10 Billfishery of the Year. We had plenty of 2 Blue Marlin days as well to add to the variety. Here are just a sample of some reports we got.

Coyote II – 45 for 82 on Striped Marlin in 4 Days fishing.

Andale – Capt. Warren Sellers raised 164 fish in 5 days fishing, releasing 38.

Big Fish – 10- 16 on Striped Marlin, raised 22.

You know that if we start with the Galapagos Islands as the #10 Billfishery of 2010, this is going to be a good list.
