Big Blues in the Canary Islands

Blue Marlin on Bocinegro in La Gomera

Canary Islands – 2012 was a below average season for this great fishery. While there were some nice fish caught, the numbers were definitely down. Fast forward to 2013 and the positive signs are here and we are not just talking bait. We are talking about big Blue Marlin. Capt. Jason Pipe and Nicko Bovell of Team Bocinegro have already had a great start to the season over in La Gomera with three Blue Marlin over 500 lbs, with a 650 on the first day of the season. Rigel IV also released a Blue Marlin over 500 in Gomera.

Over in Grand Canary Cavalier released a beautiful 750 lbs. Blue Marlin and the boat White Marlin caught a 650 lbs. Blue. Reel Time also released a nice fish, they called 550 lbs. Overall a good start to the season, given that most boats have only been fishing over a week.

We hope this a good sign for Madeira and Portugal, who have not seen their normal wave of fish over the last few years. Time will tell and you know we will be all over it here at Billfish Report.
