BLUE MARLIN ON SMOKER – Duarte Rato

Cape Verde Islands – Just when we thought the 2014 season was started to slow, the Blue Marlin bite kicked back into gear. What has already been an incredible season, even by Cape Verde standards just added a cherry on top. Most boats are seeing 4-5 Blue Marlin a day, but if you have Big Oh on your transom you have seen as many as fifteen (15). From that fifteen (15) Big Oh got 11 Hook-Ups and 8 releases. Capt. Marco Canu was in on the action going 4-7 on Blue Marlin, raising 10 on the day. Both Bebiche and Dimeo both turned in nice outings, with Bebiche going 2-4 and Dimeo 4-5. There have been a couple really nice fish around too with Dimeo releasing an 850 lbs. Blue Marlin and Big Oh an 800 lbs. Blue Marlin.

June has historically been a really good month, but fewer boats are out as many Captains start following the fish up north into other fisheries. We should start getting increased reports on Blue Marlin in the Eastern Atlantic from Madeira, Canary Islands and the Azores. If the Cape Verdes are any indicator, it should be a good summer!
