Cairns, Aus – We knew it was coming, but we are still awaiting the first skipper to call the first Grander Black of the season. We have the 3rd 950+ lbs Black Marlin. This time, courtesy of Sea Baby IV. We are expecting a Grander of the GBR anytime now….

Not something you see very often – a couple of black marlin behind the boat.  This is from the back of the Tradition, wit Capt. Tim Richardson. Appears to be a smaller male following the larger female that is hooked up.

Boats are seeing a consistent and pretty decent bite in the runup to Bisbee’s…for example, today the Picante fleet saw what was a pretty typical day for Cabo these days – three boats saw, in aggregate, two blues, six stripeys, and three sails.  (No slams – the sails didn’t mix with the blues and stripeys today).  There are definitely blacks…

Ross Finlayson’s Top Shot saw about as great a day as you’ll ever see on the Great Barrier Reef yesterday, with seven black marlin bites all told…and six fish released.  No fish of great size – the largest fish went 350 – but there won’t be many days on the reef this year that top this one for numbers.  Pictures…
